She nodded. "I see... I usually stay higher up, though this place is interesting..."

"What generation core are you?" he said. "I'm generation 1 -- first core ever made, actually," he said, with a touch of pride. "Memory Sphere. I'm not sure why they needed a sphere to hold all the information about Aperture Science, though, to be honest."

"Generation three." she smiled. "I've met a few cores from generation one, actually... A while ago..."

"You don't really see too many of them around anymore," Pendleton said. "They don't even make replacement shells for them anymore. They were experimenting with different metals for a while to see what was the best one. I'm the only brass core in existence. I think the newer generations use some mixture of steel and aluminum."

"That would be nice," he said. "Haven't had anyone to talk to in a long while. Why're you down here, anyways? Nobody ever comes down here of their own accord."

She shrugged. "I have a tendency to befriend some very..." she paused for the right word. "...Boring people."
