"I'm fine! Just fine!" He slipped and fell again, this time landing on his butt.

She helped him up before shoving as many papers as she could manage into the orange envelope. She glanced down at her watch and cursed under her breath. "I'd love to help pay for your coffee, but I'm a bit short on money, and time..." she tucked her work under her arm and turned to run. "Sorry again!"

He just blinked as she moved down the street, before going back to buy another coffee.

Overnight, the rain didn't slacken. It got worse, actually. And the temperature plummented. The girl tried to hide in an alley, but water dripped over the overhang of a roof and drenched her. And then she got kicked out of the alley. Coughing and weak, she climbed over a fence and into somebodies backyard and collapsed on their porch which was at least covered, if not warm. After a while, she fell asleep, not from sleepiness but from being sick.

Around six, the door to the porch opened, and there was a small gasp. "Lily? Blue? A little help out here?" An almost painfully warm hand lifted her wrist, feeling for a pulse. "You're going to be alright, don't worry...I know a doctor..."

She groaned a bit, shivering, coughing a little more.

Two pairs of feet ran down the stairs, stopping just inside the door. "Oh wow..." "Get her inside," a firm, female voice snapped. "Blue, get as many blankets as you can. Timothy, put her on the couch and turn up the heat. Where do you two keep the thermometer?" "Third drawer to the right, in the kitchen," the boy said, picking her up. "Good. Hurry up, and get that door closed!"

The girl flinched at the feel of unfamiliar hands on her, before her body wracked in more coughs. "N-no.... let go.... d-don't hurt me..."

(Go ahead.)
"We're not going to hurt you..." Timothy told her, stepping back inside. He frowned slightly, noting how light her clothes were. "Is there anyone you want us to call, to come take care of you, or...?"

The brown-haired girl finished a shift at a restaurant, where she hoped to gather enough money to pay for college. Of course, she didn't expect working as a waitress would gather enough, so she ended up getting two jobs, though it was stressful. She grabbed her coat and umbrella and headed out, pulling her hair out of the elastic she used to tie it up.
